Hazardous Weather Outlook for Saturday February 24


Freezing rain will extend from western New England northwest to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and portions of northwestern Wisconsin.  Freezing rain is also likely on Saturday over parts of Iowa, southeastern Nebraska, and northeastern Kansas.  Cities with the threat for freezing rain include Albany, Syracuse, and Des Moines.  An area of low pressure will help trigger zones of flash flooding from western Pennsylvania southwest across Ohio, Indiana, and southern Illinois to portions of western Kentucky, western Tennessee, northern Mississippi, Arkansas, and northeastern Texas.  Cities with the threat for flash flooding include Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Nashville, and Little Rock.  Severe thunderstorms are likely over portions of Arkansas, northern Mississippi, and western Tennessee.  Snowfalls of four to eight inches will affect some western and northern regions of Wisconsin and some eastern and southern portions of Minnesota.  Lighter snow will fall over the interior of the Pacific Northwest.  River flooding is possible to likely from western Pennsylvania, Ohio, southern Michigan, Indiana, and Illinois southwest to northern Louisiana.  There will be an elevated risk for wildfires on Saturday over parts of Texas and New Mexico.  Areas of high pressure will be positioned over eastern Montana and Arizona.
